Ship safely with a lightweight release checklist
Make releases easier to review, monitor, and roll back without adding unnecessary process.

Agree on the release essentials
A release checklist should capture the few steps that protect customers from avoidable failures. Record the owner, the affected workflows, the tests completed, and any changes to stored data. Keep the checklist short enough to use on routine releases and expand it when the risk calls for closer review.
Plan for recovery before launch
Decide which signals will tell you whether the release is healthy. Check error rates, response times, and a small set of customer tasks against a recent baseline. For database changes, confirm which steps can be reversed and which need a separate recovery plan; rolling back application code may not undo a data migration.
Roll out to a limited audience when practical, then expand after reviewing the results. Make sure the person monitoring the release can reach someone who can stop it. Afterward, update the checklist with lessons from the release instead of adding permanent steps for every hypothetical failure.
